Eat Healthy

Introduction

Thought that it was time that I introduced some ideas to improve your diet with some ideas on how to eat healthy, assuming that you do not do so already? Even if you do, a refresher is always useful.

Start to become a Healthy Eater

To be a healthy eater you need to not only need to be smart, but also be aware of what healthy eating really is. It is not about understanding how to work out how much fat you consume, or working out how many calories or grams you consume, nor do you need to study labels on jars and tins.

To eat healthy is in fact about moderate eating which is balanced, this means three healthy meals a day. Those that eat healthily eat a variety of different foods, they certainly do not just eat one type of food group, or one type of food.

It is a fact that to eat healthy, does in fact need a lot of leeway. There will be times when you eat foods that are more healthy, or even less, also you can eat too much or not enough.

Whatever you consume you must always feed both your body and brain on a regular basis with sufficient food which will keep body and mind both strong and alert.

It may surprise you that one who eats healthy is usually a good problem solver, they make sensible decisions and good judgment, having learned to look after themselves, they are always aware of their eating habits, also how it will affect their bodies.

If a person finds themselves unable to control what they eat, this is likely to lead them to get out of control with other matters, these include:

  • Spending too much.
  • Talking too much
  • Drinking too much and so on and so forth.

Do remember that if you restrict food it is generally a bad thing. Learning to eat healthy is really a way of life, this enables you to enhance, not your lifestyle, but also your body. Have you ever thought about making your life even better than it is now? If so, then the right place to start is with healthy eating. This will make life easier, not just for you, but your family, and others that you know.

Change Yor Eating Habits

You will no doubt be aware, if you do not eat food which contain the right nutrients for your body to ensure that it performs correctly, this also affects your fitness. Healthy eating is important as we have already mentioned, however there are some myths which exist that can hinder your overall performance, should you choice to listen to them.

Myth Busters

Below are seven myths which you will do well to ignore.

  1. Work out on empty stomach, if your tummy rumbles it is telling you that it wants some fuel first. Always eat a light snack, an apple will suffice before any form of physical activity or exercise.
  2. Energy drinks and bars. Eating vegetables and fruit are a much better idea, they are full of minerals, fibre, vitamins and fluid. Energy bars and drinks are alright on the odd occasion, but they do not give you the antioxidants that your body needs to prevent cancer. (This does not mean of course, that the risk of cancer will go away).
  3. Ignore Breakfast. This is never a good idea, to me breakfast starts the day. Your body has had no fuel all night and needs stoking up to enable you to start the day invigorated. No breakfast and you will be hungry all day. I have not had a fried breakfast for years, instead a bowl of bran with either fresh grapes or blueberries, even raspberries or strawberries, starts my day.
  4. Having a diet full of low carbs. Another bad idea, carbohydrates are needed by your body, for the storing of energy and your muscles.
  5. You can eat what you want to? Really, just because you exercise and eat healthily it does not mean that you can eat anything that you feel like. We all need the same nutrients, even if we do or do not exercise. Also we need to eat fruit and vegetables.
  6. Too Few Calories. If you are aiming to lose weight or trying to this involves calories. You must make sure that your body is getting enough calories, this enables your body to operate in a smooth manner. If you see that the weight is dropping off quickly, eat a little more food.
  7. Ignore Alcohol and Soda. If you are active the best drinks for you are Juice, Water and Milk. Make sure that you drink often, if you rely on your thirst to indicate that you are thirsty, this is in fact an indication that your body is already a little on the low side.

A Budget for Healthy Eating

If the price of having healthy food causes a problem, try some of these ideas to help reduce the cost.

Cut Out Junk Food.

Try shopping on your own when others are with you, especially children, they just love you buying junk food. Only buy the food that you really need.

Instead of Soft Drinks.

Have Water or Milk, you can always enjoy your favourite tipple on a night out. When you shop, select the smallest size, this will not only save money, but reduce the calories. It is of course essential that children drink milk, or milk products on a daily basis, adults also need to partake of calcium on a daily basis, it is good for your strength, as well as healthy bones and teeth.

When You Buy Fruit do so in Bulk.

Buy fruit in bulk when they are in season, any surplus can be washed, discarding any unhealthy bits, dry well, put in plastic bags and freeze. It makes sense to store the amount that you would need at one time in a separate bag, thus making the bulk purchase better value.

Beans and Meats

These are both a good source of protein, canned beans are usually a good buy, I do appreciate that the leaner the meat the more expensive it is.

Using Beans as a Substutute

On occasions beans should be used as a substitute for meat. There are a number of varieties, prepare them in a crock pot before you go out, this way they will be ready to eat when you return.

Fresh Fish

If you live in an area in a coastal area where fish can be caught, make them part of your diet, fish are so good for you. If you can catch them yourself, think of the saving.

Water Content Foods

These are very good for you, two examples being Salads and Watermelons.

Peanut Butter

If you are on a budget then Peanut Butter is ideal, that is assuming that you like it (we do not!). It can be used in sandwiches instead of some unhealthy filling. Do remember that it does need to be kept in the fridge, but you can buy large jars, which will make it last for a very long time.

Conclusion

When you change how you eat it is a step towards having a healthy lifestyle, this will also affect the performance of your body. You will certainly feel better, the healthier you eat. It does not matter what age you are, it is something that you should certainly try to do. Try it and see just how much your life can be changed, and for the better.

You just cannot go wrong if you start to eat healthier. The fact that you can eat healthy for just a few pounds a week makes it ideal for those either on a low income, or a budget.

If you already eat healthy, my apologies for this article, though, I do so hope that you may just have found something of use in it.

The next article which will be posted on Monday will be Happiness.

  1. Hey you. Thanks for the informative content that shared with us. I think healthy eating is not just eating healthy foods. The habit of how we eat is healthy eating for example: avoiding drinking hot water or cold water in the middle of eating food can be healthy eating. A budget for healthy eating as you mentioned can be helpful. I think you have mentioned such great details about this issue. So thanks for sharing.

  2. Hi Stuart, congratulations on a great website! I see that you have chosen the same theme as me, alltough a complete different topic. I like that it seems you have a wide perspective on your topics, exploring many different areas when it comes to health, both physical and mental. What I think would improve your site is to add a few more pictures, to make it more alive. Also, just a small detail, but changing your profile name from Admin, to your real name will make the page feel more authentic. All the best. Chris.

    • Hi Chris, this is so good with many valuable comments.  Totally agree regarding the pictures, keep meaning to add more, but then I cannot find what I really want to use, I know a poor excuse.  Regarding my profile name, had difficulty trying to change it, so just left it, but many thanks for the heads up on that, will make  a note to change it.

  3. I found your blog very interesting! I’m very interested in healthy food, as well. Everyone’s body is a little different and responds differently, but some of the overall general guidelines you give are awesome! I find it works well for me to eat fairly simply. A lot of the more complicated foods are not as healthy. Of course, that’s a huge generalization.

Thanks for the good pointers in your excellent article!

  4. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your article about eating healthy. I believe it’s something that we all aim to do, but it doesn’t always go as planned. I do try to eat healthy, give or take a few treats but I do exercise regularly and I drink lots and lots of water.

I’ve always tried to have a varied diet and try not to cut out any particular food, unless of course it doesn’t agree with me. I have a very sluggish digestive system and diverticulosis, so I have to be careful not to eat things that contain shells such as popcorn, sweetcorn, lentils etc. They just don’t break down in my stomach.

You mention an important thing about swapping juice for water and not waiting until you’re thirsty before you do have a drink.

Thank you for sharing some great tips that we can all find useful.

    • Hi Louise, many thanks for your valued comments which are veery mush appreciated.

  5. It’s a very wonderful website you’ve got here. Eating healthy should be a way of life for everyone. Unless we learn to eat healthily, we will always come down with lots of health problems that can be completely addressed by simply eating healthy, as you’ve rightly noted. Thank you for this wonderful piece.

    • Thank you so very much for your very kind comments, which are very much appreciated.
