A Look at Meditation

Introduction

I briefly touched on Meditation in one of my first articles, in fact I have had a site dedicated to meditation for quite some time, however this article is to introduce you in a gentle way to some techniques and ideas that you might find useful.

The Art of Meditation has seen it practiced for thousands of years all around the world. It has many qualities, devotees use it to release stress, also to quiet both the mind and the body. After meditating, it has been known for problems that have caused you distress for a while, to have been solved, as a result of the clarity and focus that meditating brings. Some have even become very successful in life, as a result of Meditating.

If you would like to please do visit my site at https://meditatingonline.com, it has not been updated for sometime, but still has some articles on it that you might find useful.

Simple Meditation

A simple form of meditation suggests that you sit in a quiet room or space, sitting on a pillow, or in a chair, a comfortable one, or even cross-legged on the floor, do make sure that your spine is straight. It is preferable to use the same space each time that you meditate. Some suggest that your spot should be personalised, however I meditate down the garden, if it is dry outside my Summerhouse, sitting in a chair that I use for painting, it is very comfortable, I always face the garden.

When you meditate the idea is that you sit quietly, eyes closed, focusing on a point somewhere inside your forehead. Allow yourself and your mind to become both peaceful and calm, thinking of nothing of importance, if you find that your mind is very active, just let it have its moment. It will slow down eventually. If you are a beginner at meditation, the recommended time that you spend each day is to have ten minute sessions, but no more than twenty minutes. Once you have practiced meditating for a while, you will begin to feel deeply relaxed.

Let us look at another train of thought.

Self Improvement Using Meditation

The above quote, to me, sets the tone for this next part of the article, it is logic is it not, that if your thoughts change, certainly to any degree then if it does not change your world, then it must change your direction.

There are times in your life when you like to be able to rely on someone’s advice, when it comes to improving yourself. But, consider if you were given that advice, if it was wrong, you are certainly going to blame the person that gave it to you.

This is the reason that when you find yourself at a crossroad, that you are always advised to make those decisions yourself, not relying on others.

We now have the question, which solution do we take, and is the best one?

Your age does not matter, you are bound at some point in your life to have had to make a major decision, that could actually affect, possibly the rest of your life. Such as should I marry that person even if my heart says not to? There are times when you really feel the need for someone to give you some advice on self-improvement.

Despite the fact that there is never a simple answer, one piece of self-improvement advice that many people find to be of great help especially when used on a regular basis that can have good results. That is:

Meditation

As mentioned at the start of this article that meditation has been around for many years, in fact it is known to be have been used by ancient civilizations, also in some form of rituals. It is even found in the Bible where people are invited to meditate, to fight the evil which is in us, helping us to use the knowledge to help us control the decisions that we make.

What Else Can We Do When We Start Meditating?

It has already been mentioned how to start your meditation session, but there is a lot more to it than the correct posture and concentration. In addition to the starting position mentioned you need to:

To find out exactly who you are you need to ask yourself some questions which relate to everyday aspects, these will make you determine exactly who you are:

These questions include:

What are you favourite hobbies and pastimes?

To date what is the proudest moment of your life?

Up to now, what have you have never found time to do, yet always wanted to?

How important does the role of money play in your life?

In your life how much do you depend on others?

Is your family or your job more important.

Having made a decision and you feel worried about what you have decided, then let all the questions relate to that decision.

If when asking questions you feel confused, then think about common topics that occur during your lifetime.

Remember to write down the answers to these questions, try to be honest and concentrate, there is nobody to judge you or mark your replies.

The questions that you are asking and answering will help you discover what you want from life, more importantly where you stand. The trick now is too interpret these replies of your, correctly!

To help you do this grab your favourite beverage, tea or coffee, then take as long as you need to thoroughly analyze them. Take a coloured pen, red or green is best, tick those that you are proud of, with a different coloured pen, black or blue, tick those that you are not proud of.

You can now either post this list where you can see it more than once a day, or copy it and place it in more than the one place.

Conclusion

Slowly but surely, you will notice that more items turn red or green. When most of it has changed colour, renew the list, this will ensure that you are constantly aware what you are expecting from life.

If you follow this very simple piece of advice on self-improvement, notice for yourself the positive results they bring.

The next article which will be posted on Monday will be “Stop Smoking”. The first in a trilogy of bad habits.

Stay healthy,

Stuart

  2. To meditate well, we must observe a series of rituals. The question that you mentioned in “What else can we do when we start meditating” was very helpful. It can easily lead us to where we want to go. I mean it can help us to understand what we are meditating and then we can realize how well it helps us. I start meditating lately and it was very helpful for me.

  3. Doing medidation is scientifically proven to release stress and can even help with cognitive development. I have been trying to do some meditation with an app, but somehow I forget to do it daily. Reading this blog post reminds me that I should really do it more regularly. Maybe setting up an alarm or so on my phone can remind me of it? I’m always just going on working and working and I really should distress daily or it will burn me out. Thanks for the reminder!

    • Hi Lizzy,

Must confess that I meditate when I feel the need to, it still helps to as you say, relieve stress and keep me calm.  Why not try adding it to your to do list, then it should remind you to meditate.
