Introduction
Was not quite sure where to include this article, but following on from those on stress and blood pressure, thought why not now. This is an article different to the way in which I normally write, as I have gathered together a number of items that will help you to reduce your tension.
As a result I will just number them, adding a short narrative. These are not in any particular order, just how I came across them.
1. The past has gone, let it remain there, do appreciate that this is not always easy, concentrate on the future instead.
2. It is important that you identify the real cause of stress.
3. When faced with a situation do so with confidence.
4. It will help to relieve your tension if you do breathing exercises regularly.
5. To relax your mind, why not try Aromatherapy.
6. Try to find time for Yoga and Meditation, I intend to write an article on Meditation in the near future.
7, If you are feeling tense why not surprise an old friend, or a member of the family with a visit.
8. Spend some time with your children or grandchildren, in my case great-grandchildren, we just talk or go out for the afternoon, it takes you away from anything that could be causing you stress.
9. Be positive and always think for the best.
10. Remember there are more important things in life than just money.
11. When faced with a stressful event, take time to think about it, do not respond straight away.
12. Help those less fortunate than you are.
13. Try counting down from 100 to 1 when you are tensed.
14. If you have faith in God, then try praying to him.
15. Approach each challenge that you face with confidence.
16. Why not think about others who have more serious problems than you do.
17. When speaking to others, or approaching them, always be polite.
18. Try to keep in contact with your family and close friends, this way you will be able to share any problems with them.
19. Ensure that you maintain your personal hygiene.
20. If you are able to go for a walk in the Morning or Evening, this will help you to relax, do both if you are able to.
21. Try to avoid being alone all the time, mix where possible with others.
22. When approaching others do so with a smile.
23. When in company, laughing and sharing jokes, will help you to relax.
24. Listening to your favourite music is always good for you, I know that it does me the power of good.
25. You can reduce tension by reading an interesting book.
26. If you are able to, do some gardening, it is certainly one of my favourite ways to relax.
27. Another of my favourite way to release tension is to paint, it does not matter in what medium, or what subject, I can just immerse myself as I put things onto the canvas, please not I am not very good, but it is fun for an hour or so, thinking of nothing else, but what I am trying to do.
28. In addition to No.4 above, as the tension creeps up on you, stop what you are doing and take a few deep breaths, then relax.
29. Sleeping soundly is essential to relax both your body and mind.
30. Avoid Drinking and Smoking in excess.
31. Make sure that you eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.
32. Having a meal in a restaurant can often put you in a good mood, that is assuming the bill does not make you worse. (Sorry, this is my stupid humour, you should know how expensive the restaurant is before you enter the establishment).
33. Have your meals at a regular time each day. This stops you from not only going hungry, but getting wound up because you are.
34. Ensure that you give some time to any hobbies that you might have. I have a number and have to be careful that they do not take over my life.
35. If you have any, or know someone who does, spend a little time with pet animals. I know that I miss our dog dreadfully, he used to sit by my side and the world just evaporated, it was always so calming.
36. If you no longer actively take part in sport, then go along and watch some. OK, when I go I do shout and scream, but it relieves any tension build up that I might have had.
37. If you engage in sexual activity, do make sure it is with the same partner. Having affairs will increase your tension.
38. Any health problems that you may have must be discussed with your medical practitioner, whose advice must be followed.
39. A sleep in the afternoon can be beneficial, providing it is not too deep.
40. When you wake up, always have a relaxing bath or shower, if you like them add some bath salts with a refreshing fragrance.
41. Getting up early in a morning can help you get set up for the day, this is of course within reason.
42. Any activities that you take part in keep to a regular timetable, here I am thinking walks, swimming and other such ideas.
43. Plan some trips out with the family.
44. Invite the family for a meal, not just on special occasions.
Conclusion
Do so hope that these thoughts on how to reduce tension, will not only give you some food for thought, but also help you to relax more by reducing any tension that you may have.
The next article which will be posted on Monday will be on Depression.
Take care and stay healthy
