Children and Nutrition

Introduction

Several reasons have prompted me to write this article, first I thought that it would make a good follow on from a previous one on organic foods, secondly having both Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, I cannot help but notice that some of the food that they consume would be better consigned to the dustbin.

Having just re-read the last sentance, I suppose that this has been the case with children for many decades, including my own, as things do change.

The third reason is, to me, the most important one, my youngest grandson does not eat vegetables ever. When I challanged him on this, he said I do eat a lot of fresh fruit Granddad! When he was very young he was having his evening meal at our house, I had done stuffed Yorkshire Pudding, one each, with mince, finely chopped vegetables and gravy. Whilst he was eating it he said “Someone has put blinking vegetables in this”, I did pacify him at the time but it did make me think. OK I was a wartime baby, we all grew our own veg, in many cases to supplement the lack of meat, so it just never dawned on me that the modern child, not only did not eat vegetables, but was not encouraged to do so.

General Outline

When it comes to nutrition for children, it’s important to make sure they are getting the right balance of nutrients for their growing bodies. A healthy diet for a child should include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and water. Fruit juices, while they can be a good source of vitamins, should be limited due to their high sugar content.

Fruits and vegetables are essential for a healthy diet, as they provide essential vitamins and minerals. Eating a variety of different fruits and vegetables can help ensure that children get the essential nutrients they need. Fruits and vegetables are also a good source of dietary fibre, which is important for good digestion and regular bowel movements.

Water is also an important part of a child’s diet. It helps to keep the body hydrated and helps to flush out toxins. Children should aim to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water per day.

Fruit juice can also be a part of a healthy diet for children, but should be limited due to its high sugar content. If you do choose to give your child fruit juice, make sure it is 100% juice and not from concentrate.

In addition to eating a balanced diet, it is also important to make sure that children are getting enough physical activity. Regular exercise helps to keep the body healthy and can help to reduce the risk of obesity in children.

Nutrition for children is an important part of their overall health and well-being. Eating a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and water, as well as getting enough physical activity, can help ensure that children are getting the nutrients they need to stay healthy and strong.

Conclusion

Think that having just re-read this article that it just about covers the reason that nutition for children is so very important, not just from a healthy point of view, but to balance their entire outlook on life, with regard to what they eat and drink, please understand that these are just my thoughts on this subject.

This Weeks’ Health Tips.

  1. Treat yourself to a massage, reflexology treatment, Reiki treatment or the like: This too will relax you and help you function better.
  2. Add any form of exercise that calls for slow, rhythmic breathing to your daily routine. Not breathing deeply enough actually causes or aggravates many health conditions such as stress, digestive difficulties, depression and insomnia.
  3. Take vitamin D supplements during the winter months, if you live in a colder climate. Our bodies naturally synthesize vitamin D from the sunlight, and during winter months we often go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. Take no more than 250 micrograms daily (10,000 IU).

Please note that I am not a qualified health professional #, you follow these tips at your own risk, if in doubt seek proper medical advice.

  1. There is a saying that “We are what we eat” In this day and time in which we live fast foods and junk foods are all too common because of how quickly these foods are prepared or they can be eaten right out of the package. While these foods may taste good they are not good for our health therefore we should begin to eat healthy and teach our children to do likewise because a healthy lifestyle can help us to avoid many health issues. Eating a lot of fruits, vegetables, and grains, getting sufficient water along with exercise and proper sleep will keep us in top shape.
