Introduction:
The lifestyle which people lead, can be the cause of a number of chronic illnesses. Why, is the obvious question.
- Lack of exercise
- Failing to watch their weight, thus eventually becoming obese.
- By eating unhealthy foods, including some takeaways and ready meals, this can lead to illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, strokes and heart disease.
It is extremely difficult to change your lifestyle, those who recognize that they should, fail because they try to do it all at once. This can also lead to people giving up the good habits, whilst retaining the bad ones.
Another problem that this causes is the person making this conscious effort, stops living healthily as the new lifestyle simply is too much for them to cope with. The result is back to the bad old ways.
In looking at 5 Healthy habits that you can’t live without, does it not make more sense to change your habits in easy stages, such as one at a time, this way you and your body become used to the new changes gradually, instead of all at once.
An example of this is weight loss programs, done properly, do not tend to deprive the person who is attempting to lose weight.
You could use the same theory for your exercise regime, doing an exercise that you enjoy, or increasing one slowly, usually has the benefit of keeping it going. In this way you are not fed up and stop the activity all together.
As I said earlier, if you really wish to live healthily, then start slowly, also ignore the latest fitness or diet plan that appear to be all the rage. Not only are they likely not to work, you are more than likely to give them up.
In addition to those simple changes listed below, do remember, for your body to function efficiently, it needs enough rest. Do make sure that you have at least seven hours sleep every day.
These five simple changes to your health habits will help you live a life which is not only healthier, but happier as well
Everyday try to ensure that at least one meal is healthy.
It does not matter what you normally eat, you will ensure that your body enjoys being fed with healthy proteins and good nutrition.
This will mean you having a meal containing mainly of fruit and vegetables to which you add lean meats and whole grain products.
The size of the portion which you eat is immaterial as long as the food is healthy, normally this will not contain a lot of calories, thus not increasing your weight as you would by eating junks food.
Even so do try to watch the portions which you consume. To maintain a healthy diet, reduce your daily dose of fats and sugar, increasing your fiber intake.
Pre-Meal Drink, Try Water Instead.
Gasp of horror suggesting that you forgo your Gin and Tonic, before your meal and drinking water instead.
Without any doubt water is the best liquid that you can drink. If you have a glass of water before you eat, it will make you feel fuller thus reducing the need for too much food.
You do need to drink plenty of water as the body contains 70%. Keeping yourself hydrated, you will notice an improvement in your energy levels.
Lunch, be active.
However long your lunch break is, you should still have time to take some exercise, just a brisk walk will do.
This helps to burn off the calories, aid your digestive system, it will also help to energize you for the afternoon at the same time decrease the stress of your work situation
Try a Protein Bar.
Buy a healthy protein bar to eat as a snack, it is far healthier than a bag of crisps. These bars often known as meal replacement bars contain lots of good nutrition and also a good dose of fiber, whilst not being excessively rich in calories.
These bars help to reduce that mid-morning or afternoon spell when you feel peckish. If you keep some of these in your handbag, briefcase or drawer, then when you feel hungry, solve those hunger pangs and grab one.
When I am away at a conference or long meeting, I always keep a couple in my laptop bag. The ideal bars should be high in fiber, with a protein level of at least 10 to 15 per cent.
Exercise on a Regular Basis.
Are you a member of a Gym, if so make the effort to go three to four times a week. Have at least thirty minutes on an activity that you enjoy.
You will lose weight as you burn off excess calories, energize yourself, you could even increase your muscle mass. This can also help reduce your stress levels.
Never forget when working out to do some pre-exercise warm-ups first. If you are not a member of a gym, then go for brisk walks or try swimming.
Both will help relieve stress, improve your energy and reduce the calories.
Every evening, when my evening meal has digested, I go for a brisk walk of between 1500 and 2000 paces, it is starting to make a difference to how I feel also to my fitness and general well-being.
